Katapola

The historic bay of Katapola, with its sheltered safe harbor, crowned by the three settlements of Katapola, Xylokeratidi and Rachidi, is one of the most beautiful landscapes on the island. The port of Katapola is considered a safe anchorage for small fishing boats and yachts.

Up in the hills of Katapola, which was the harbour of the island during ancient times, the imposing hill of Ancient Minoa is revealed with remarkable archaeological finds while a little farther is located the charming area of Lefkas. Ancient Minoa was founded by Samian colonists in the 7th century BC, while the area was inhabited since the end of the 5th millennium BC. In Katapola, at the top of the hill of Moundoulia, you can observe the ruins of the settlement of ancient Minoa.

The landscape in Katapola is magnificent, with its simple Cycladic architecture, the whitewashed houses, the historic churches, the beautiful beaches with the fishing boats, the plain with the olive trees and the orchards. At the harbour there are numerous tourist accommodation and various shops.
